CHAMBERSBURG, PA- The Keystone College baseball team continued to roll, taking down the Phoenix of Wilson College in a United East double header. The Giants took down Wilson in game one 15-3, before knocking in 15 more runs in game two to take down the Phoenix 15-2.
Game One: (Keystone 15, Wilson 3)
The Giants struck early in game one of the doubleheader, knocking in the game's first two runs in the first inning of play. Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) singled down the third base line, scoring Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International). Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) later scored the Giants second run on a called balk on the Phoenix pitcher. Wilson tacked on one of their three runs in the bottom half of the frame, but left the tying run stranded to end the inning trailing 2-1.
Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) scored in the second innning, shortly after Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) reached first base on a throwing error by Wilson's second baseman. Keystone continued to press in the third inning, knocking in four runs. Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur) SAC flew out to left field, scoring Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View). Kyle Trzaskawka (Shamong, N.J./Seneca) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community). Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) and Trzaskawka scored in the inning to wrap up the third inning.
The fourth inning saw the Giants knock in an additional two runs, with the fifth inning seeing the same result. KC decided the game in the seventh inning, knocking in the game's final three runs to win 15-3. Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View), Jonathan Santiago (Dunnellon, Fla./Citrus Springs), and Ethan Schimony (State College, Pa./State College Area) all scored in the inning. Keystone pushed their win streak to twelve entering the second game of the doubleheader.
Game Two: (Keystone 15, Wilson 2)
The nightcap once more belonged to the Giants, as they took down the Phoenix 15-2 to complete the sweep of their conference foe. Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) started Keystone's offense off early, kncoking a ball up the middle, scoring Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International). Wilson battled back, tying the game in the second frame, where the game would stay knotted up heading into the fourth inning.
The Giants broke the tie when Colson Bennett (Camden, Del./Caesar Rodney) singled up the middle, scoring Dillion Bird (Westlake, La./Sulphur). KC pushed their lead to three in the fifth inning, starting with a Carlos Pascual (Paterson, N.J./International) score. Benny Hess (Reading, Ohio/Reading Community) added an RBI in the inning, putting Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) across home plate. The Giants lead remained at three heading into the seventh, and final inning.Â
Keystone scored 11 runs in the seventh inning, giving Wilson no chance to come back to tie or win the contest. Ray Moreta (Bergenfield, N.J./Bergenfield) sent a home run out to left center, scoring both himself and Dante Ruby (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) in the inning. Ian Scalabrini (Oakland, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) sent a ball out of the park in right field, scoring both himself an Dee Rice (Spartanburg, S.C./Dorman) for the Giants final two runs of the evening.
Keystone returns home for a non-conference match up against Misericordia University next. The Giants take on the Cougars on April 14 at Christy Mathewson Field.Â
