ALLENTOWN, PA- Keystone fell in both ends of a United East Conference doubleheader at Cedar Crest on Tuesday, dropping game one 11-3 before falling 11-1 in game two at Blaschak Field. Despite the results, game two marked a historic day for #15 Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown), who made her 100th career start and collected her 100th career hit during the contest.
Game One: Cedar Crest 11, Keystone 3
Keystone jumped out early, plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Shalimar Lopez Ramirez (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) and Krista Cortazar (Throop, Pa./Mid Valley) each delivered hits to spark the rally, while Amaia Smith (Berlin, N.J./Overbrook) drove in a run to give the Giants a 2-0 lead.
Cedar Crest responded immediately, erupting for five runs in the bottom half of the inning and adding six more in the second to take control of the game.
Lopez Ramirez led Keystone offensively with two hits and an RBI, while Cortazar and Emily Schultz (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock Area) also contributed base knocks. Clara Sandly (Taylor, Pa./Riverside) added a double, and Benitez recorded a hit and stolen base.
Aimee Lyons (Ajax, ON/Pickering) provided 2.2 innings of scoreless relief in the circle, striking out two.
Game Two: Cedar Crest 11, Keystone 1
Cedar Crest once again used a big inning to pull away, scoring four runs in the second and seven more in the third.
Keystone broke through in the fourth inning when Benitez singled to right field—her 100th career hit—and later scored on an RBI single from Briana Aponte (El Paso, Tex./Chapin).
Benitez finished 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base in the game, while Lopez Ramirez and Cortazar each recorded two hits. Jordan Chabreck (Lacombe, La./Lakeshore) and Aponte also added hits for the Giants.
In the circle, Aimee Lyons (Ajax, ON/Pickering) started and went 2.2 innings, while Benitez tossed 1.1 innings of relief and allowed just one hit while striking out two.
The Giants look to bounce back as they return home to La Plume for the first time this season as the team hosts Gallaudet University in a United East Conference doubleheader. The Giants will be celebrating their two seniors, Emily Shultz and Isabella Benitez (East Windsor, N.J./Hightstown) against the Bison.
