LA PLUME, PA- Brian Slater's four-year career with the Keystone College track and field program was defined by speed, championships and record-setting performances that left a lasting mark on the Giants program.
As Keystone Athletics counts down to the 2026 Hall of Fame induction ceremony on October 9, the department will highlight one member of this year's Hall of Fame Class each Friday. This week, the series continues with Slater, who will be joined in the Class of 2026 by Hope Santana, Malcolm Boone and the 2016 Keystone baseball team.
Slater, a 2013 Keystone graduate, competed for the Giants from 2008 through 2012 and established himself as one of the top sprinters in program history. A six-time Mason-Dixon All-Conference honoree, Slater captured the conference championship in the 200 meters and qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships twice during his Keystone career.
His senior season in 2012 added another chapter to an already decorated career.
Slater earned Mason-Dixon All-Conference recognition in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4x100-meter relay, showcasing his versatility across Keystone's sprint events. His performances throughout his career also helped establish him as one of the most accomplished sprinters in program history.
Slater's name remains throughout the Keystone record book. He set 12 school records during his career and recorded the program's top indoor and outdoor marks in the 200 meters, running 22.65 seconds indoors and 21.83 seconds outdoors.
Both 200-meter performances remain Keystone College records as of 2026.
His success on the track was accompanied by a continued commitment to representing Keystone at the highest levels of collegiate competition. His two NCAA Division III National Qualifier appearances highlighted a career that combined conference championships, All-Conference honors and school-record performances.
Following his time at Keystone, Slater continued his involvement in track and field as both a competitor and coach. He represented the U.S. Virgin Islands at the international level before beginning a collegiate coaching career.
Since entering coaching, Slater has mentored 13 national qualifiers, coached eight NCAA Division III New England Regional qualifiers and guided more than 20 individuals to conference championship honors. His teams have also captured three conference team titles.
Since 2023, Slater has served as the head men's and women's track and field coach at Methodist University, where his athletes have earned USA South All-Conference and USTFCCCA All-Region recognition.
In 2026, Slater led the Methodist men's program to the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, where the Monarchs finished first among 12 teams. Following the championship, he was named the 2026 Methodist University Thomas R. and Elizabeth E. McLean Foundation Coach of the Year.
More than a decade after completing his collegiate career, Slater's influence on track and field continues through the student-athletes he coaches and mentors.
Slater is set to be inducted into the Keystone College Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026 on October 9 at 5 p.m.
From his six Mason-Dixon All-Conference honors and two NCAA Division III National Qualifier appearances to his 12 school records and record-setting 200-meter performances, Slater's impact on Keystone track and field remains firmly established in the program's history.
