CHAMBERSBURG, PA- Aiden Cummings (Baltimore, MD/Mount Saint Joseph) scored twice in the second half, Nico Bernardo (Palm Bay, FL/Bayside) added a goal, and James Kallens (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central Regional) made seven saves as Keystone men's soccer defeated Wilson 3-0 Saturday at Kris's Meadow. The Giants improved to 3-5-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
The teams went into halftime scoreless despite chances at both ends. Keystone tested Wilson goalkeeper Gerson Navarro early, with Cummings putting a shot on goal in the 10th minute and Patrick Sceppaguercio (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) following with another in the 12th. The Giants earned six first-half corner kicks and nearly broke through just before the break, but Navarro saved Loui Arellano's (Winchester, TN/The Webb School of Bell Buckle) attempt in the 45th minute.
Kallens kept the match level at the other end. He stopped Jace Williams in the sixth minute, then made two saves less than a minute apart midway through the half. He finished the opening 45 minutes with four saves.
Keystone began creating chances again shortly after halftime. Dary Hodge-Davila (Riverview, FL/Riverview) entered in the 49th minute and forced a save less than three minutes later. In the 57th minute, he set up Cummings for the opening goal. Hodge-Davila continued to press, putting two more shots on goal over the next five minutes.
Cummings struck again in the 69th minute, scoring off an assist from Marcos Louzada (Guacui, Espirito Santo, Brazil/The Webb School) to give Keystone a 2-0 lead. Wilson looked for a response, but Kallens saved a shot by Williams less than a minute after the goal.
Bernardo entered in the 77th minute and scored an unassisted goal in the 80th to complete the scoring. Kallens made two more saves down the stretch, including one in the final seconds, to secure the shutout.
Keystone finished with a 19-16 edge in shots and put 10 attempts on goal. Cummings led the Giants with six shots, four on target, while Hodge-Davila had four shots and an assist. Keystone also held a 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.\
The Giants aim to stay perfect in United East play as the team heads out to Penn State Brandywine on September 29 with kickoff slated for 4:00 PM.
